Our family of 2 adults, 2 kids, (11 and 13yrs) wanted to do the Langtang Trek independently as we wanted to acclimatize slowly, and go at our own pace allowing flexibility for kids getting sick and needing rest days etc. We also thought a guide would be good though, and even though kids are experienced hikers, we also thought a porter to take a couple of kilos each off us would be good for when we were at higher altirtude. Our Kathmandu hotel (Utse) manager put us in touch with Tej, we met with him and told him what we wanted, and he organized a guide and porter that were both friendly, professional, and great with the kids, and were very flexible allowing us to decide on villages to stay at and staying however many nights we wanted etc. Most days Samir the porter lead our trek, but at our pace, stopping whenever we needed to, and Ram our guide tailed patiently helping me (the mum!) whenever I needed a hand. They played Yoyo, rubik cube, and cards with the kids every evening, had snowball fights with them, taught them some Nepali, but also gave us family space too. They organized great guest houses for us in every village, one long day when we had heard on the trail that the village we were heading to was busy, our porter went ahead to secure rooms for us so we didn’t have to stay in tents 🙂 Overall we were very satisfied with the service from Tej, our guide and porter, and could confidently recommend them to a family with similar needs 🙂
