Gurungs are a main race whose members have served with distinction in the Nepalese, British and Indian armies. Gurungs typically live high up on the hills where they raise maize, millet, and rice. Buffalo is the predominant form of cattle. The height of pastures can reach 12,500 feet. Gurungs practice Buddhism. They are typically short and stocky, with mongoloid features. Gurungs speak their own language, but the majority also speak Nepali. Many young individuals work in offices at lower altitudes.

The people of this region have a unique lifestyle their lifestyle havenot changed for almost thousands of years. The Royal Trek is undoubtedly ‘off the beaten path’. You can get closer to nature and the local culture on this trip because it is less crowded than other treks in the area. In general, paths and bridges are well-maintained by the locals who rely on them. Since the weather is erratic, warm clothing should be brought. 

In addition to the cultural attractions and scenic mountain views previously mentioned, there are also possibilities of encountering wonderful flora and fauna.

For instance, in areas characterized by upper sub-alpine steppe, it is possible to observe uncommon animals like snow leopards and blue sheep. Other regions are home to protected avian species such as the multi-colored impeyan, kokla, and blood pheasant. Additionally, there is an abundance of butterflies and other insects. Furthermore, the area boasts of having 100 species of orchids and is home to the world’s largest rhododendron forest. 

Background 

The Royal walk begins in the lovely lakeside city of Pokhara and travels through the Gandaki zone, a lovely area of hamlets populated by Gurung people. Before arriving at the picturesque Begnas Lake, it offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna mountains, including Machapuchhre (fishtail) and Langtang Mountain, and hillside rice terraces. Machapuchhre is sacred and has never been climbed.

Day-to-day-Itinerary

Day 1

Pokhara to Kalikasthan

After an early breakfast, drive from Pokhara to Bijayapur Khola, which is the starting point of the trek. The trail starts with a steep climb through terraced fields and villages, offering spectacular views of the Annapurna range. After a few hours of trekking, reach Kalikasthan, a small village with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Spend the night in a teahouse and enjoy a warm dinner.

Day 2

Kalikasthan to Syaklung

Wake up early and start trekking towards Syaklung, which is a small Gurung village located at an altitude of 1730m. The trail passes through dense forests and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks. Reach Syaklung in the afternoon and explore the village.

Spend the night in a teahouse and enjoy a traditional Gurung dinner.

Day 3

Syaklung to Chisapani

After breakfast, start trekking towards Chisapani, which is a beautiful village located at an altitude of 1550m. The trail passes through forests and small villages, and offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. Reach Chisapani in the afternoon and explore the village. Spend the night in a teahouse and enjoy a warm dinner.

Day 4

Chisapani to Pokhara

Wake up early and start trekking towards Pokhara, which is the endpoint of the trek.

The trail passes through beautiful forests and small villages, and offers stunning views of the Annapurna range. Reach Pokhara in the afternoon and check into your hotel. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city and relaxing. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide and team
