About Ramechhap/ Manthali Airport
The Ramechhap Airport, also known as Manthali Airport, is an alternative airstrip for reaching Lukla, a gateway to the Khumbu region. It is the domestic airport serving the municipality of Manthali in the Tamakoshi River valley of Nepal. It was opened in October 1979, closed for 13 months for renovation in 2015, and reopened in August 2016. The Ramechhap airport is situated at an elevation of 474 meters and features one runway measuring 530 meters (1,739 feet) in length. Additionally, since 2019, and more consistently from 2022 onward, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has directed that flights to Lukla operate from Manthali Airport during peak trekking seasons (spring and autumn) to reduce air traffic at Kathmandu Airport.
