I really enjoyed during this short trekking to Chisapani- Nagarkot. The guide “Thal” is very kind and experienced. This is very good because most important thing is to share the silence of nature for me!!! The most beautiful part of this trip has been the Jungle part after Chisapani. Nobody was there, only me, the guide and the nature. The hotels were very simple in Chisapani but food was really good. Thanks a lot for your cooperation.

Sunrise and sunset from Nagarkot

Nagarkot is a tranquil hill station in Bhaktapur renowned for its sunrise and sunset vistas. The sun gradually rises over the Annapurna, Everest, and Langtang Himalayan ranges on clear mornings. The snow-covered mountains shimmer in soft golden and orange colors. You can walk at your own pace, take photographs, or sit and watch the mountains glitter in the morning sun.

It is also as spectacular at sunset. Once the sun sets behind the hills, the sky changes into orange, red, and purple shades. The lights slowly dim, creating a calming mood, a good moment to pause and reflect on your day. Most people like to sit quietly or take photos as they soak in the peaceful ambiance.

Can I combine Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking with other adventures?

Yes, you can easily combine the Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking with other adventures in Nepal. Since the trek is relatively short and accessible, it’s a great starting point for treks. You could continue your journey to other famous trekking destinations like Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Lake, or the Annapurna region, all of which are easily reachable from Kathmandu.

Cultural enthusiasts can also enjoy immersive tours of ancient temples and UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur either before or after the hike. Beyond trekking and heritage exploration, Nepal offers countless thrilling adventures. You can extend your journey with wildlife safaris in Chitwan or Bardia National Parks, or indulge in outdoor sports like bungee jumping, paragliding, canyoning, and zip-lining in Pokhara.

Major Stops Along the Way

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park

Established in 2002, Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is Nepal’s ninth national park. It lies in the country’s mid-hills on the northern periphery of the Kathmandu Valley. The park covers an area of 159 km² (61 sq mi) in the districts of Kathmandu, Sindupalchowk, Nuwakot, and Dhading, with elevations ranging from 960 m (Narsingh Ghat) to 2,732 m (Shivapuri Peak). In addition, the park features several historical sites, is home to numerous species of wildlife, and is a popular hiking destination.

Chisapani

Chispani is one of the picturesque locations near Kathmandu and a key destination on the hike to Chispani Nagrakot. The village lies within the Shivapuri National Park and offers a mesmerizing view of mountain peaks and green hills. Similarly, the village is also known as the gateway to Nuwakot and a popular starting point for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. Furthermore, the sunrises and sunsets in the Langtang, Everest, Annapurna, and Manaslu mountain ranges are breathtaking from Chisapani village.

Nagarkot

At an elevation of 2,195 meters, Nagrakot is a renowned destination in Kathmandu, known for its exceptional beauty and stunning sunrise views. For nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Nagarkot is the ideal destination, offering its lush greenery and spectacular views of mountain peaks. One of the best aspects of Nagarkot is that it is the perfect blend of nature with modern life, as travelers can find numerous hotels ranging from budget-friendly to star-rated. Moreover, the destination was a strategic fort, known as a ‘kot’ in Nepali, for the rulers of the Kathmandu Valley.

Is Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking Suitable For You?

If you enjoy nature walks, cultural experiences, and panoramic mountain views without the challenging altitude of higher treks, this hike is perfect for you. It is also good for families, solo travelers, and groups looking for a peaceful getaway with the comfort of accessible accommodations and well-marked trails. Additionally, this easy-to-moderate hike suits trekkers of varying fitness levels, whether beginners or experienced trekkers looking for a short but rewarding adventure.

However, some uphill stretches and varying terrain require basic fitness, so you should prepare for the hike by engaging in light aerobic exercises beforehand. But if you have specific health concerns, limited physical fitness, or seek a high-altitude adventure, Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking may not suit you.

Which Time is best for Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking?

Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the best times for Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking. During these months, the weather is generally clear and pleasant, providing optimal conditions for trekking. Autumn offers crisp air, clear skies, and incredible views of the surrounding Himalayas, including peaks like Everest, Langtang, and Ganesh Himal. Spring is also a fantastic time as wildflowers are in bloom, and the temperature is mild, making the hiking experience comfortable.

It’s best to avoid the monsoon season (June to August) when trails are slippery, and there is a higher chance of rain. Winter (December to February) can also be cold and might make the hike challenging, particularly in higher altitudes like Nagarkot, where temperatures drop significantly.

What are the accommodation and food options during the hike?

During the Chisapani Nagarkot hike, accommodation options vary from basic lodges and comfortable guesthouses to luxury hotels. In Chisapani, you’ll stay in simple lodges that offer basic amenities such as warm beds and shared bathrooms. In contrast, Nagarkot is a popular tourist spot with more upscale options. There are well-maintained resorts and hotels with private bathrooms and warm water. The accommodation is clean and cozy, offering a great retreat after a day of hiking.

Food options along the route are mostly traditional Nepali cuisine, with Dal Bhat (steamed rice with lentil soup and seasonal vegetables) being the staple. In addition, you can enjoy Momo(dumplings), thukpa (Tibetan noodle soup), and chapati with curry. Most guesthouses and tea houses also serve a range of international dishes, including fried rice, noodles, pasta, omelets, pancakes, toast with jam or honey, and even pizza or burgers in Nagarkot.

You’ll also find hot beverages such as milk tea, black tea, ginger lemon honey, coffee, and hot chocolate, which may be found in Chisapani but are common in Nagarkot. Snacks like biscuits, instant noodles, boiled eggs, and seasonal fruits are also available. Vegetarian options are widely offered, and some places may accommodate basic dietary preferences if informed in advance. The meals are freshly prepared, nutritious, and ideal for replenishing energy during your hike.
