Difficulty Level of Langtang Trek
Langtang Valley Trekking is a moderate-level trek. Anyone with decent physical and mental fitness can easily go for this trek. Since it is a moderate-level trek, it can’t be quickly completed. It will present you with several challenges along the way. Firstly, the total walking distance you must cover during the trek is around 70-80 Kms. The trails are mostly uphill, and you must walk 6-7 hours daily. The weather in the Himalayan region is unpredictable. You need to be all prepared for it. It might rain, or the temperatures might drop significantly. Not only that, but it might even snow, making the trails slippery.
One of the most common difficulties that trekkers face during the trek is Altitude Sickness. The Langtang region lies above 4000 m from sea level, and the oxygen level in this region is very low. Thus, there’s a high probability of trekkers suffering from Altitude Sickness. You need to consider these things before you set off to the Langtang region. This trek can be the best preparatory option for those planning to trek the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Things to Experience during Langtang Valley Trek
The Langtang Valley trek is a voyage through the scenic landscape of Nepal, known for its stunning beauty and unique culture. Each step of the trek, from lush forest to snooting river to towering peaks, amazes trekkers. The beautiful Langtang Valley offers something to experience in its majesty. Some of the key things one can experience during their expedition to Langtang are:
Tamang Heritage & Festival
Tamang are the residents of the Langtang Valley and came from Tibetan families. The community follows Tibetan Buddhism and has its own unique culture and heritage. You can experience their local culture up close throughout the journey to Langtang. The region showcases its unique heritage influenced by the Tibetan and Nepalese. The monasteries on the village, prayer wheels, and Mani walls show the village’s cultural beauty. Also, if you get to the town during the festive season, you can experience it.
Kyanjin Gompa
Kyanjin Gompa is one of the prominent landmarks of the Langtang Valley. Located at 3,870m above sea level, it is a beautiful village with mesmerizing mountain views. You can experience the majestic beauty of the town as it has Mt. Langtang Lirung on its backdrop, creating a surreal experience. Trekkers can go for hikes to stunning peaks.
Tserko Ri
The stunning panorama of Tserko Ri is one of the highlights of the trek to Langtang Valley. Located at 5,033 m (16,512 ft), the peak adds to the region’s beauty and lies near Kyanjin Gompa. It takes 6–7 hours to ascend to Tserko Ri from Kyanjin Ri and 3-4 hours to descend. The top of the Tserko Ri offers mesmerizing views of the Langtang mountain range and Shishapangma mountain.
Panoramic View of Mountains & Surrounding
The panorama of mountains is indeed the prominent feature of the Langtang Valley that called thousands of visitors early. Thus, trekkers can experience the crispness of the mountainous surroundings during their journey to Langtang Valley. Eye-catching panorama of Langtang Lirung (7,246 m), Ganesh Himal (7,422m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Gangchenpo (6378m ), Langtang Ri (7205 m), Porong Ri (7292 m), and Yala Peak (5520 m) are spectacular on your 8 days Langtang Valley trekking.
First Himalayan National Park
On your hike to Langtang Valley, you will experience the freshness of the first Himalayan National Park, Langtang National Park. Established in 1976, the National Park is the fourth protected area of Nepal. With a variety of flora and fauna, it is spread over 1,710 square kilometers.
Beautiful Glaciers
As the Langtang itself is known as the valley of the glacier, trekkers can absolutely witness the stunning glacier during their trek. Glaciers, including Yala, Lirung, Khimsung, and Langtang, are impressive scenes from the trek to Langtang Valley.
Food & Drinks Around Langtang Valley Trek
Trekkers get meals at the tea house during the Langtang Valley trek. At the lower elevation, trekkers find a vast range of options for food; however, at the higher elevation, food options are minimal and almost the same at every tea house. The tea houses have communal indoor heating in a central dining room. Nepal Alternative Trek provides you with a service of three meals a day: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The options for breakfast include muesli, eggs, porridge, salad, potatoes, Tibetan chapati, bread, pancakes, and soup. Likewise, for lunch and dinner, you have options among:
- Nepalese Food: Dal Bhat ( with plane steamed white rice, lentil soup with local spices, mix fried vegetable curry with spices, pickle, and meat items if you prefer ), Chowmin, Momo
- International Food: Spaghetti, pasta, fried rice.
- Local recommended: Potato roll soup, Tngmo momo with curry
Keeping your body hydrated is a crucial aspect of trekking. Thus, drinking 4 to 5 L of water daily is highly recommended. However, buying 4-5 Liters of water daily is expensive; thus, consider carrying a refillable water bottle and water purification tablet.
Accommodation Option At Langtang Valley Trek
While the tea houses are the common accommodation during the trek to Langtang Valley, trekkers have options in the lower region. You can find different options, including a Hotel and lodge in the Syabrubesi. However, tea houses are the only option as you trek high. Correspondingly, the higher you go, the fewer facilities are available due to remoteness.
You will find standard hotels with standard rooms at your starting point of the trek to Syabrubesi. There, you’ll get a single room with an attached bathroom. However, the cost is higher in the hotels than in basic ones. On the other hand, as you ascend, the accommodation option becomes basic. The tea houses offer basic rooms on a twin-sharing basis with facilities like foam mattresses, blankets, and pillows in a bed.
Toilets in the trekking trail are squat and may be outside in a separate hut. Bathrooms are also shared. You can get a hot shower to bathe in, but it costs $2-$3 extra. The Langtang Valley doesn’t have an electricity facility, so the locals use solar. Thus, if you want to charge your electronics, it costs $2-$3 per hour. Moreover, some tea houses provide Wi-Fi facilities but cost an extra $2-$3, and the connection could be very slow.
The Difficulty of Langtang Trek
The trek to Langtang is moderate and the easiest in Nepal’s Himalayas. Anyone with decent physical and mental fitness can easily go for this trek. However, it is a moderate-level trek; it can’t be easily completed. It will present you with several challenges along the way, including:
High Altitude:
Langtang Valley lies above 4,000m, and the highest elevation one can reach on the trek is 4,984 meters, so high altitude can lead to significant difficulties during the trip. The air becomes thinner at higher elevations, and problem-related altitude is a major concern. The symptoms of altitude sickness start to seem as you get above 2,500m. Thus, properly acclimatizing is vital while trekking in Langtang Valley.
Unpredictable Himalayas weather
The weather of Nepal’s Himalayas, including Langtang Valley, is known for its unpredictable weather conditions, making trekking and other activities challenging. The sudden change in weather, like strong wind, rainfall, or snow, can cause trouble while trekking. Thus, prepare yourself accordingly and always check the weather before starting the day.
Physically demanding trek
The trek requires a daily walk of 5-6 hours in varied terrain, making it a physically demanding trek. People with joint and knee problems face challenges on the trek due to ascent and descent sections. Thus, a moderate level of fitness is necessary. Exercise regularly, like cardio workouts, hiking, and strength training to prepare yourself.
Varied trails
The trail to Langtang Valley is a mix of gentle, steep uphills and some rocky sections. Trekkers trek through dirt trails with rocky and steep parts. The trail at specific parts of the journey is also narrow, making trekking difficult.
Off-season trekking in Langtang
Winter and Summer are not the ideal trekking season in Langtang. During Summer, this region receives heavy rainfall, making it challenging to trek. The trails get muddy, and you will encounter leeches, bugs, etc. The weather becomes unpredictable. The heavy rain increases the possibility of Landslides, making it riskier to trek. The trails get covered with fog, making it challenging to trek. The temperature during the season ranges from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F) during the day and 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F) at night.
The winter months are the coldest time in this region. The temperature goes negative during winter, and this region receives a huge snowfall, ranging from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F) during the day and -15°C to -5°C (5°F to 23°F) at night. The trails get covered with snow. Even the locals who run the Tea houses and Lodges migrate toward the lower parts during winter. Thus, finding accommodation was also an issue at the time. Moreover, altitude sickness concerns are very high during winter.

13 Days Manaslu Trek !
My friend and I were lucky to find Tej online before visiting Nepal. We knew we wanted to do a trek, but we weren’t sure exactly which trek. Tej sent us a bunch of itineraries for different treks and we chose the Manaslu circuit. When we arrived our guide, Kumar, was waiting for us at the airport and Tej was able to get us all our permits for the trek done in less than 2 hours which was great. The manaslu trek was absolutely amazing! We were super happy with our whole trip and we were lucky to be able to make the pass even though we saw dozens of other people who had to turn back because of the weather. We are already looking forward to going back next year at the same time to trek Everest and we will definitely use Tej again!

“Nepal Alternative Trek addressed my needs according to my schedule and agenda. I stayed most of the time at his home-stay, shuttling between home and the places that I wanted to visit. Tej, the boss behind Nepal Alternative Trek, helped to make my stay in Kathmandu comfortable and productive. He walked me to the monasteries that I wanted to visit and even picked me up when I needed a ride back home.
The home-stay is hosted by his wife and I got to experience living with a Nepalese family, sharing their food, space and laughter.
For the home-stay:
1) Meals available upon request
2) Family get together and chats
3) Regular change of bed-sheets and towels
4) Free WIFI
5) Near Swayambhu and Thamel
6) Safe environment
7) Mountainous forest behind home
8) Walking distance to beautiful monasteries
9) Away from hustle and bustle of towns yet easy to get to town
I left the home-stay with a smile.
All the best,

Singapore River, Singapore6 Months Of Preparation For ABC Trekking
Goal was achieved 4130 meter and 0 degree celsius, Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It was 6 months of preparation. It was challenging target for us. We had dense forest, mountain, and completely wilderness above the treeline, it was windy and terrain . There is a huge support team. Without them it would not be possible. We can do it , we just have to give time and practice. Mr. Gurung Ji, you with your entire 7 of team were wonderful. They were always ready to help us.
Thanks Mr. Gurung ji for all the support, and guidance that made the trip successful. While all of us focused on Mountain, big thing but there were so many beautiful things along the way, stream, flowers, flora, so many birds I took pictures. So, in summary, phenomenal, success and our confidence there. We know, we can do more and higher in next what bigger thing.

India8 days non trek city tour and 21days trek to EBC and chola pass
We love nepal and made 3 time visit to this beutiful country and rich culture. This time last year we came with 6 pax and visited Kathmandu , Pohkara and chitwan with a stay of 2 night in each place. We flew to Pohkara and got the van to chitwan and flew to Kathmandu. Tej arranged all transports overland and flights for us. We did not asked for a local guide but it was all smooth and no problem. We are happy with the service provided by Tej and he made all efforts to make us happy. His company performed professional with the very reasonable pricing. We encountered some small problem with the van transporting us back from nagarkot to kathmandu airport. This van was quite small and it came to pick up quite late that we almost missed the flight to pohkara. We told Tej about this and he must take care of this outsourced van company. Anyway the van in pohkara and to chitwan was excellent , big and comfy. So he has corrected the mistake.
Part 2 was our trek to EBC and chola pass for 21 nights. Tej arranged for flight and guide plus porter. For this trekking it was only me and my wife travelling together. We are about 50 years and used the service of 2 porters cause we bought a lot of dry food plus chocolate. We are difficult persons in terms of foreign food. Our guide Ammer and 2 porters are fabulous. They took care of us very well like we are part of their family.
Overall we strongly recommend this company. They are good and not high expensive tag. We will use their service again in June to trek in Langtang. Rocky

Bangkok, ThailandA great experience on the Annapurna Circuit
We had a fantastic experience on the Annapurna Circuit with Nepal Alternative Treks. Tej, the manager, was helpful, professional and efficient in dealing with our requirements and amendments, the arrangements worked smoothly and the information provided to us was excellent. Our guide Kul was brilliant. He was friendly, knowledgable and experienced and took changes in our itinerary in his stride. Our trekking experience was much better with his help in everything from planning the stages of the route to organising our food and accommodation. Just one warning: he is an ace card player and will probably beat you hands down!

UKA wonderful and interesting trek overall
A wonderful & interesting trek overall. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances ( heavy snow fall & Lie ping with a bad cold) we were unable to cross the Ganja la pass. However, our guide Simbir offered us as alternative trek which took us on a difference journey of Nepal. We had the opportunity to visit & stay in many local villages and meet Tamang, Gurung people experience, their lifestyle and culture. We visited our guide’s home town of Chalishgaun and timed it right to join in with Diwali celebrations!

USAA trip worth of a lifetime!
Attempting Everest base camp trekking for me & my group was taking it to the next level. Before this, our limits were Kedarnath, MadMaheshwar & Tunganath with max distances of 18-19 kms spread over 2-3 days. Moreover, these tracks are such that people doesn’t necessarily have to trek. They have the option of ponies. EBC involves a lot for people like us (acclimatization to altitude, strength etc.), but above all, you need someone to provide logistical support, moral support that it can be done. This is where Nepal Alternative Treks does a great job. They organized it very well, guides and porters provided were very reliable and cost is reasonable when you compare to others. They can customize your travel plan according to your need.

IndiaA Trek in Ruby Valley !
A few weeks ago we went on a trip to Nepal, accompanied by a couple of friends who were on their second trip with Nepal Alternative Trek. Our first goal was to trek to the village of Chalish in Ruby Valley. We decided to go with the services of Nepal Alternative Trek to take us up there. We went there partly by jeep, partly walking through the cultivated terraces, meeting the inhabitants of the different communities who worked there.
I must say that the service that Tej offered us was perfect on all lines. First of all, before our departure, months before, Tej always answered our many questions (luggage, temperature, route to be revised, etc.) Always within 24 hours, he answered with a lot of patience.
All the equipment we thought we would need was available at his office.
Our guide Ammar led us to destination with confidence and professionalism. He knew all the trails, and especially all the shortcuts to avoid us having to go up or down too much along our road. He has managed all the difficulties we have encountered: due to personal reasons, we had to change and our itinerary, and our calendar, and he made everything possible. The whole team adapted to our changes. Our guide contacted Tej who orchestrated the changes without us even having to deal with anything.
The porters were attentive and were always in front of our needs.
Our journey continued towards Bandipur with the driver who made us know the various interesting points, from sunrise to sunset, making detours to take us to the most famous places. Then a 2 days stay in Chitwan, and return to Kathmandu again where the driver carried us without calculating from one place to another – God knows that traffic in Kathmandu, Bakhtapur and Patan can be complicated.
Thanks to Tej, and the whole Nepal Alternative Trek team. We will remember forever that amazing experience.
