Dec 2022 Tej quickly planned our trip providing us with the best options. Me and my fiancee wanted to focus on photography and Tej reviewed and adjusted his packages accordingly. His long serving partner Amar Gurung proved to be a reliable and selfless guide willing to fulfill all of ur requests. Together with his we roamed the wild deserted lands of the Upper mustang and visited the Chitwan national park. We would definitely plan our next trip with Nepal alternative treks and Expeditions.

In Kathmandu I met up with a Nepal Alternative Treks guide, and together we embarked on a journey to the Solukhumbu region, to do the Three Passes Trek. A challenging route, the guide was very professional, gave confidence, and opened up many local inroads - geographical and cultural - that would have been off-limits had I done the trek on my own. Considering the challenges on the way, it was indeed very wise to have organised a guide, despite having vast experience in many mountain ranges. Crossing passes in the Himalayas at 5,500 meter is a different story, and acclimitisation (in particular when you carry your own backpack of 17 kilos/37 pounds) had to be well-planned and monitored on a daily basis. So we did, which resulted in the most spectacular mountain vistas I have ever witnessed. Several 8000ers (4 of the 6 highest mountains in the world...) in one panorama, this is arguably only possible in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. The exquisite vastness of the mountain ranges is just overwhelming, and can only be experienced by being there. The guide was flexible, supportive, and very friendly, and became a mountain comnrade, perfecting a trip that I will never forget. 100 % recommended to organise trekking trips with this organisation !

Look no further, if you want a professional tour operator there provide a perfect and reliable service, fast response and answers to all your questions. Tej (the owner) managed to plan and organize a month trip in the middle of the Corona pandemic within 24 hours via e-mail and WhatsApp, including everything (Permits – Guide – Porter – Hotel – Corona restrictions – Flight etc.) And with perfect and correct information about everything regarding Corona restrictions, something that even the Nepalis Embassy in Denmark could not provide. From the personal pickup in the airport - to the hotel - Corona test – tours - flight tickets – Guide just everything worked perfect and what I really liked is, when you have asked Tej for something you can consider it DONE – No need to ask for it again, no need to control it – you can trust Tej to have done it and done it quickly. And the same goes for the excellent guide Nauser that I got – He provide an extremely hi level of service and he is there 24/7 on the trek if you need him and are at the same time a very pleasant company. I have earlier done a lot of mountain climbing, but this time I had problems acclimatize above 4.000 meters, so we had to adjust our trekking plan, and every time Nauser (my guide) came up with alternatives plans and always motivated me, when I was disappointed with my own performance/acclimatization. After almost 3 weeks of trekking, I was unlucky and got sick (Flu – not Corona) in the night. It is in this situation you really need your guide and even that I woke up Nauser very early in the morning, was he immediately aware of the situation and before I had eaten my breakfast, had we a plan ready to come down from the mountains, Nauser had informed Tej (the owner in Kathmandu) about the situation, so they could be ready, if my situation got worse and Nauser and my also strong and reliable porter (Pasang Sherpa) was ready to help me down the mountains, and thanks to them, I was able to walk out. I will of course use Nepal Alternative Trek & Expedition again, on my next trip to Nepal and I can only recommend you to contact Tej, if you are planning to go to Nepal. Because after I have traveled to over 40 countries, I can say with confidents, that Tej and Nauser have giving me, one off the best services that I have ever experienced, regardless of what kind travel I have done – Period. Best regards Jørn

We had initially chosen another agency-Nepal Eco adventure but received a very rude response from its MD after asking him about the guide's licenses and informing him of our insurer's terms. We are glad that we ended up going with Nepal Alternative Treks, as Mr Tej Gurung is responsive to all our queries and concerns, which are aplenty since this is our first time trekking in Nepal. We were assigned Ammer Gurung as our guide for the 5 days' trek and we couldn't be more happy with Ammer's services. Ammer is responsible, alert, knowledgeable, and showed concerns for our safety-he broke our falls a few times, as the rocks were slippery. He was also very patient as we had told him at the start of the trek that we had to take it slow as we are not very physically fit. He told us to take our time and always ensured that we had enough to eat and drink. We also had pretty good tea house accommodation especially in ghorepani and Gandruk. The food at Hotel Robin in Gandruk was excellent; do try the chicken sizzler! Our porter (Sudeep/Thardra? Didn't really managed to get his name) was also excellent. Although he couldn't converse much in English, he was always ready to help and always ensured that our accommodation was ready and comfortable when we arrived. We called him superman for his energy and speed. :) All in all, Nepal Alternative Treks is a fantastic agency to book with if you are planning on trekking in Nepal. We will definitely choose them again for future treks!

We did the Manaslu circuit and Tsum valley. We spent a great time in the beautiful mystery tsum valley and the great nature of Manaslu. We had a very good guide with Nauser, good accommodation and good food. We enjoyed avoiding the crowd of this trek. Thank you Tej and Nauser for Everything!

We did the ABC trek with Nauser as our guide. Nauser was fantastic. During the trek we were quicker than expected and decided to do it in a day less. Nauser rearranged all our accommodation and transport to allow us to do this. This is a safe, well organised outfit. Communication prior to arrival was excellent. We were a family group of 5 adults and would certainly recommend this company to other groups. We hope you would enjoy yourselves as much as we did!

First of all, Our guide Dhan is very nice person, he was always taking care  for us and the days were flying trekking together with him. We felt always save with him. Dhan has the wonderful character to inspire and encourage us even in hard walks because of the high mountain sickness. We enjoyed his company very much. The tour was well planned. Thanks very much to Nepal alternative family.

We trekked for nine days to Annapurna Base Camp in April 2017. The tour guide and porters were attentive and excellent. During high season, just make sure all accommodations along the route are booked days beforehand (DON'T DO WALK-IN) otherwise you may have no place to sleep (especially large groups like us). What happened to us was the tour guide wasn't sure if we could make the time according to the plan so they just made reservation a day prior. Anyway, the owner seemed apologetic about this and gave us a free van for a day-tour in Kathmandu after we got back. Looking forward to do EBC with them in the future!!!

"Sorry for the long review, but it needs some length to properly explain our experience. The service from this company began very badly, but ended well. If ever there was an argument for using an established, reputable company to enable problems to be resolved this is it, but our experience also reinforces the reality that an individual guide has the potential to make or break a trip, even if they work for a reputable company. Our early morning transfer to the Kathmandu airport from the trek company’s guest house arrived very late and the guide did not accompany us. We waited outside the terminal for the guide who arrived with our tickets, but too late for the flight. The guide was belligerent with the airline staff and unapologetic to us. He seemed so “out of it” (for reasons unknown to us) that we called the trek company owner and asked for another guide because we were concerned about why he was in that state and what the repercussions could be for our trek. Setting aside the obvious problems with the first guide, this is where having an experienced trekking company was advantageous as they were able to quickly provide a new guide who ultimately helped make the trek a good experience. Unfortunately, the flight we missed because of the first guide turned out to be the only flight of the day due to whether conditions in Lukla. Nepal Alternative Treks gave us that night’s accommodation in their guest house and arranged flight tickets for the next day. Concerned about getting to Lukla, and after discussions with the company, we ended up going by helicopter after paying a supplement. The new guide, Amar, was excellent. He was pleasant, helpful, and service-oriented, thus the overall rating of 4. The trek itself was beautiful and a great experience. With 20/20 hindsight, if we did another trek with any company, we would ask for more information about the accommodations. We do not know if it would even have been possible for the Gokyo trek, but it would have been FAR more pleasant if we had stayed in rooms with attached toilets. Going down cold hallways at night to find the toilet already in use was not fun. We did have attached toilets for two nights and wondered if that would have been possible other nights, perhaps for a supplement. Having said that, we would still have done and enjoyed the trek if none of the accommodations had attached toilets. In fact, we didn’t expect to have any, but two nights with that luxury emphasized the huge difference, perhaps even more so because we are in our 60’s. One additional point is that we had arranged with the trekking company for some car transfers to and from accommodations in Pokhara and also Nagarkot. We did this thinking that an established company would have relationships with good, reliable drivers, but the transfers were all late and/or the driver clearly had very little idea about getting to our destinations. In one case we even went a significant distance in the wrong direction on a very busy one-way road in Kathmandu before other motorists were able to bring this to the attention of our driver. In the future, we would probably just use a trekking company for trekking services."

Tej was very accommodating from answering our emails, to welcoming us upon arrival, until sending us off. He even gave us certificates of appreciation upon completion of our Everest View Trek. We are well taken care of. We booked the whole trekking package with him which includes accommodation, meals, guide, porter, and trekking equipment such as down jackets, sleeping bags, trekking poles, and duffel bag. On the other hand, Lal Gurung, our guide is a great guy. We highly recommend trekking with him. This is actually our second time to have him as our guide. We're glad that Tej granted our request to book him for this trip. Overall, we had a great time in Nepal and we highly recommend Nepal Alternative Treks to anyone.

Recommended! We came to Nepal with a very limited timeframe, not much equipment, low budget and a wish to visit a very remote place where not every company offers a trip. Tej and our guide Ugul took very good care of us. Tej organized the trip and permits within 24 hours of our first call. At first, we took a guide because it was mandatory, but on the way, we realized it was also necessary. Even though we are normally independent in our travels, this time it was such a relief to have our guide and to be free from all hassle from transportation, translation, food, accommodation, and planning. Ugul was always there for us and always managed the situation well. We paid for food and accomm in front and we got always the nicest logging and best cooking available. They are happy to help you with everything needed. Tej and Ugul, thank you and take care. Jana

We contacted Tej Gurung before the earthquake and fixed the dates for our trek. After the earthquake we were concerned as the trail was closed due to landslides. Tej was very reassuring and we continued with our plans. Tej then contacted us a few weeks before our departure to tell us that the circuit was open again. His communications were excellent from our first contact. All the arrangements went smoothly and we had a wonderful trek with guide Nauser and porter Ramus. The scenery was spectacular; the guest houses appeared to be the best on offer and Nauser could not have been more attentive, concerned and helpful. He and Ramus were always cheerful and happy! We would definitely recommend Nepal Alternative Treks and Expeditions.

Nepal alternative treks team was very supportive and helped me and my friend accomplish a task which we thought was unattainable. I would like to recommend them for any treks in the Annapurna region.
