I arranged a mad honey hunting experience in Nepal with Sanjalal and Purna as my guides. Due to the low season, no other travelers joined, so I ended up going solo. Although slightly expensive, Tej made the effort to organize a visit with a local community in Tigi Dada, Lamjung—an area less commonly used compared to Annapurna or Manaslu.
Upon arrival, we met a group of around 12 locals who had gathered for the hunt. They brought all the necessary food, equipment, and supplies. After a jeep ride and a 2–3 hour hike to a remote location (not found on Google Maps), we spent the evening together preparing for the hunt. The community was incredibly welcoming—we shared a traditional dinner of dal bhat and spicy chicken, along with plenty of laughter and conversation.
The next morning, after a short hike, we reached the cliffside hives. Watching the hunters in action—using smoke, rope ladders, and traditional techniques—was a remarkable experience. I was able to observe up close, capture photos and videos, and even taste the mad honey.
At one point, I crashed my drone, and Sanjalal along with the local community spent over an hour helping me retrieve it. Thankfully, it was only slightly damaged and still usable. Their willingness to help was greatly appreciated.
Overall, this was an unexpected and authentic experience. Traveling solo turned out to be a blessing, as it allowed me to fully immerse myself in the local culture.
