I did the Alternative (5 day) Ruby Valley hike to Chalish Gaun. As a gem enthusiast, Tej helped me arrange special day trips to a quartz mining area to explore traditional gem collecting methods in the area. Tej did so much to make this trip truly special and unique. I also did another other day hike around the beautiful valley to reach the hot springs. My guide Raju was so nice and hilarious. It was such an adventure!
The village is beautiful with very welcoming people. It really felt like I got an authentic experience in the village and I was so sad to leave. The landscape truly is beautiful with snowy mountain peaks to one side, a babbling river below, and deep mountainous valleys with stunning farming geography all around.
The hike is listed as Easy–which I think is meant for Nepalis! I found this Easy grade hike quite challenging, and I have done Garabaldi, Black Tusk, and Trolltunga with ease. I found the heat quite hard on this hike–so be prepared! Keep your luggage to a minimum. I went in May and did not require the sleeping bag I towed around.
