We did the classic Everest Base Camp trek with Alternative Treks, adding the Imja Tse (Island Peak) ascent. Many agencies offer this same combination, but after looking into several, we were convinced this one was the ideal choice. We really liked both the company’s philosophy and the many positive reviews, especially the fact that they have female guides (a job traditionally done only by men). Also important—the price was very reasonable, which made the high quality of the service we received all the more surprising. Truly TOP level.
The manager, Tej, is quick and very kind when it comes to answering any questions—both before and during the trip! (Which is essential when unexpected events occur, like flight cancellations to or from Lukla—constant communication is key.) We were absolutely delighted with him.
Our guide was Ritika. We don’t have words to express how well she treated us every single day. She’s a wonderful person, super professional, and the truth is that on future adventures elsewhere, we’ll miss not having her with us!
As for Imja Tse, they provide a specialized high-altitude guide and base camp services. Again, nothing but great things to say about Mingma, the Sherpa who accompanied us all the way to the summit.
We could write at length about the experience, but if the question is whether we’d recommend this agency for a trek or expedition, the answer is a resounding yes. Whenever we return to Nepal in the future, there’s no doubt we’ll go with them again. We’re extremely happy and grateful.
And fortunately (aside from the expected flight cancellations due to bad weather), everything went well and we achieved all our goals!
P.S. We’re also vegan, and we had absolutely no issues at any point. Ritika made sure to always inform us of the available options and coordinated with the kitchen to ensure everything was free of animal products. We even ate super well at base camp (shout-out to the cook there, Mingma—another legend!)
