Overview
The Khopra Danda Muldai View Point Trekking starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you drive further to Ghandruk, one of the main settlement areas of the Gurung community. In Ghandruk, you get the chance to explore the Gurung culture as you visit the Gurung museum and interact with the friendly local people. Their warm hospitality makes your stay more pleasant.
From Ghandruk, you trek into the rhododendron forest and stay overnight at Tadapani. Then, your next destination is Bayli Kharka . We will be taking is an off-beaten trail – barely in use. Bayli Kharka has a few lodges that provide a homely feel to your trek.
Our path will pass through Chistibang pastures and timberline forests. From the trails, you will enjoy the views of Dhaulagiri, Dhamphus Peak, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, and Annapurna South. You reach Khopra Danda finally.
You have the option either to visit Khayar Lake or walk to Swanta Village. Visiting Khayer Lake, requires a day excursion with the quite steep trail for about five hours . Swanta village is known for the community-run cheese factory.
Next day, we reach Ghorepani passing through Chitre village, where we will be joining the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek trails.
On the last day of this trek, you will wake up early in the morning at Ghorepani and climb to Poon Hill – the world-renowned viewpoint. You can see the morning sun rays painting the surrounding mountains golden. We can catch the magnificent views from Poon Hill viewpoint.
Last part of the trek is walk downhill to Banthanti from where we will take a jeep to Pokhara via Nayapul.
Background
The Khopra Danda Muldai View Point trekking is a great alternative to Ghorepani Poon hill trek, taking you higher still to another great viewpoint of the Annapurnas. If you’re looking for the perfect week-long trek, a little off-the-beaten-path and with great views, this trek is a great choice. It combines the best of what Nepal has to offer: amazing mountain views, pastoral villages, and rice fields layered on top of each other, descending down into the valley. The best part is that so few people know about it. Poon hill, Khayer Barahi Temple or Khayer Lake, Narchyang village, and Ghandruk village are the major attractions of this trek. Khopra Ridge offers breathtaking views of Mt Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, and Dhampus Peak as well as one of the most spectacular valleys on the Kali Gandaki River can be seen from this trek.
