Langtang Valley Trek Day-by-Day Distance and Itinerary
The trek takes 8 days only and starts from Syabrubesi, the starting point of the Langtang region. Our package uses the following trek itinerary:
Day 1: Drive to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu
Distance: ~120 km (driving)
Travel Time: 7–8 hours by jeep or bus
Elevation Gain: 1,400 m (Kathmandu) to 1,503 m (Syabrubesi)
Ascend/Descent: Moderate ascent through winding mountain roads.
Road Conditions and Highlights: The drive takes you through scenic landscapes with terraced fields, lush green hills, and views of the Trishuli River. While some sections are paved, others can be bumpy and dusty. You’ll pass small villages and enjoy a glimpse of rural Nepalese life.
Day 2: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
Distance: ~11 km
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,503 m (Syabrubesi) to 2,380 m (Lama Hotel)
Ascend/Descent: Steady ascent with some descents along the trail
Terrain and Highlights: The Langtang trek route follows the Langtang Khola. You will cross suspension bridges and pass through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. You can also see wildlife here, including red pandas and langurs.
Day 3: Trek to Langtang Village
Distance: ~14 km
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Elevation Gain: 2,380 m (Lama Hotel) to 3,430 m (Langtang Village)
Ascend/Descent: Continuous ascent with gradual inclines.
Terrain and Highlights: The trail opens up with breathtaking views of the Langtang range. You’ll pass small settlements like Ghodatabela and walk through alpine meadows dotted with grazing yaks. Langtang Village, a historic Tamang settlement, offers insight into local culture and traditions.
Day 4: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa
Distance: ~7 km
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation Gain: 3,430 m (Langtang Village) to 3,870 m (Kyanjin Gompa)
Ascend/Descent: Gradual ascent
Terrain and Highlights: The trail becomes more scenic, with open valleys and closer views of Langtang Lirung and other snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival, visit the Kyanjin Gompa monastery and a yak cheese factory.
Day 5: Explore Around Kyanjin Gompa
Optional Hikes: Tserko Ri (~5 km, 6–7 hours round trip, 4,984 m) for panoramic views of the Langtang range.
Langshisha Kharka (~10 km, 4–5 hours round trip) to explore the high-altitude pastures.
Elevation Gain/Descent: Depending on the hike chosen
Highlights: Witness the breathtaking Himalayan views and explore the serene surroundings of Kyanjin Gompa. Enjoy the tranquility of this high-altitude destination.
Day 6: Trek Down to Lama Hotel
Distance: ~21 km
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours

Terrain and Highlights: Descend along the same trail, retracing your steps through Langtang Village and Ghodatabela. The downhill journey offers a chance to revisit the picturesque landscapes at a more relaxed pace.
Day 7: Trek to Syabrubesi

Elevation Descent: 2,380 m (Lama Hotel) to 1,503 m (Syabrubesi)

Day 8: Drive to Kathmandu Valley

Road Conditions and Highlights: The road journey back to Kathmandu uses the same route as Day 1. Thus, you get to enjoy the drive again with the beautiful landscapes, mountain views, and rural scenery.
How do distance and altitude impact the trek’s difficulty?
The Langtang Valley Trek is one of the moderate treks and a great choice for beginners with a basic fitness level. The total trekking distance of 60–70 km is shorter and less demanding than the Everest Base Camp Trek, which covers about 130 km. Similarly, Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), the highest point of the Langtang Valley, is significantly lower than Everest Base Camp (5,364 m), which reduces the likelihood of altitude sickness.
Although the distances are manageable, the trek is full of ascents and descents. You will need to walk 5 to 7 hours daily on rough terrains. On the day of trekking from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, you will gain an elevation of over 1000m as you climb up, making it a moderately challenging experience.
Unlike the longer and higher-altitude Everest or Annapurna treks, the Langtang trek offers a balanced mix of adventure and accessibility. Langtang Valley Trek Altitude and Terrain

The Langtang Valley Trek is relatively easier in terms of altitude compared to more challenging treks like Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) or Annapurna Circuit, both of which reach higher elevations. The terrain varies significantly throughout the trek. You’ll trek through lush subtropical forests filled with rhododendrons, bamboo, and oak in the lower regions.
As you climb higher, the landscape shifts to alpine meadows and rocky paths. The trek is marked by some steep ascents and descents, such as the climb from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, but the trail remains well-defined. You’ll encounter bridges, river crossings, and some rocky sections along the way, especially as you approach higher altitudes.
Despite the moderate altitude, the terrain’s changing nature requires steady pacing and physical preparation, but the manageable distances and gradual elevation make it suitable for those with moderate fitness levels.
The Langtang trek requires walking 6–8 hours daily on uneven terrain, with some elevation gain. It involves frequent uphill and downhill walks, so it’ll be challenging for people with low fitness levels. But you can also prepare for the Langtang Valley Trek beforehand to make the trek more comfortable.
Here are some training tips:
Cardio: Start with cardio exercises like running, cycling, or swimming. Do these at least 3-4 weekly sessions to improve your stamina and heart health. Try to increase the intensity and duration over time gradually.
Strength Training: Incorporate strength training exercises, particularly for your legs (squats, lunges) and core (planks, crunches). This will help you tackle the uphill sections with ease.
Hiking Practice: Practice hikes, especially on uneven terrain, to get your body accustomed to walking for long periods with elevation changes. Try to carry a light backpack during these hikes to simulate the conditions of the trek.
Langtang Valley Trek is short but has long trekking days, so try to pack as lightly as possible. A lighter backpack will help you move more comfortably and reduce the strain on your body. Avoid overpacking with unnecessary items. Here’s a list of things required for the Langtang trek:
