Early Life & Background
Rik Man was born and raised in Ruby Valley, Dhading, a beautiful hilly village in Bagmati Province of central Nepal, approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu in the Ganesh Himal region. Growing up surrounded by mountains and nature inspired his deep connection with trekking and outdoor life from an early age.
After completing his Secondary Education Examination (SEE) at the age of 15, he moved to Kathmandu to continue his higher education and pursue new opportunities in the tourism industry.
Education
Rik Man completed Higher Secondary Level education in Journalism & Rural Development at Pashupati Multiple Campus, Chabahil, Kathmandu. His educational background has helped him develop strong communication, service, and client-care skills that are essential in the trekking and tourism industry.
Trekking Career Journey
Rik Man began his trekking career in 2016 as a porter. His very first trekking experience was a camping trek in the Annapurna region of northern Nepal. Working as a porter taught him valuable lessons about mountain life, responsibility, teamwork, and endurance.
After two seasons as a porter on camping treks in the northern Annapurna region, Rik moved into a guiding role in 2017, leading selected routes while building on-the-trail leadership skills. Through 2018 and 2019, he shifted from seasonal work to full-time professional guiding, combining porter-era endurance with the communication and client-care skills he developed through his higher education in Kathmandu.
The COVID-19 pandemic sharply reduced tourism in 2020 and 2021, but Rik returned to active guiding in 2022. In 2023, he received his official professional trekking guide license after completing formal training at the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management a milestone that formalized the experience he had built since starting as a porter in 2016.
