Thal Man Gurung is a professional trekking guide from Nepal with more than 18 years of experience in the Himalayan trekking industry. Born and raised in Chalish, a traditional Gurung village in the beautiful Rubi Valley of Dhading District, approximately 135 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, he developed a deep connection with mountain life, nature, and local culture from an early age.
Growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas inspired his passion for trekking and tourism. After completing his SLC education at the age of 18, he continued his studies through high school, building the communication and interpersonal skills that have helped him work successfully with travelers from around the world.
Today, Thal Man is proud to share Nepal’s natural beauty, mountain culture, and warm hospitality with trekkers visiting the Himalayas.
Trekking Career
Thal Man began his career in the trekking industry as a porter in 2008. Through dedication, hard work, and a passion for adventure tourism, he progressed to become a professional trekking guide in 2010.
Since then, he has guided trekkers from many different countries across some of Nepal’s most spectacular trekking destinations. With nearly two decades of experience, he has gained extensive knowledge of mountain trails, local cultures, trekking logistics, and Himalayan safety practices.
For Thal Man, trekking is more than a profession—it is a way of life. He enjoys helping travelers achieve their goals while creating memorable experiences in the mountains of Nepal.
Professional Training & Certifications
Thal Man successfully completed the Full Trekking Guide Training conducted by the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation from January 19, 2010, to February 24, 2010, achieving Grade “A”.
In addition, he has completed several professional tourism and safety training programs, including:
- Basic Mountaineering Training
- Two-Week First Aid Training
- Environment Sustainable Tourism Practices Training
- Tourism-related Environmental Crime Prevention and Control Training
These qualifications help him maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and responsible tourism while guiding treks throughout Nepal.

Thal Man has extensive guiding experience throughout Nepal’s major trekking regions, including Everest Region, Annapurna Region, Langtang Region, Manaslu Region, Makalu Region, Upper Mustang Region and Various other trekking destinations across Nepal
Over the years, he has guided trekkers on some of Nepal’s most popular adventures, including the Everest Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Langtang Valley Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek, and Upper Mustang Trek.
